Artificial intelligence (AI) is becoming a common part of the school environment today.

Many schools use AI to evaluate tests, plan lessons, or recommend appropriate curriculum for students. At first glance, it looks like a practical and modern help....

... but behind this technology there are also serious questions that are not only about technology, but also about values.

Ethics and safety are two key areas that we need to look at very carefully in connection with AI in education.

Ethics means thinking about what is right and just. When AI makes decisions about grades or recommendations, errors can occur. Some decisions may be inaccurate or even unfair to certain groups of pupils.

... if the system recommends a girl to study humanities just because she has made such decisions in the past, it is prejudice. Such behavior is unethical and can negatively affect the student's future. Ethics teaches us that everyone should have equal opportunities, regardless of gender, background, or learning style.

At the same time, safety is very important. AI systems work with a lot of data about students – for example, their results, behavior, or even emotions. If this data is not properly protected, it can fall into the wrong hands. A leak of personal information can cause inconvenience or compromise the student's privacy. Safety in school systems must therefore come first.

Ethics and safety are closely related. An ethically designed system must protect the rights of users while being transparent. Both the pupil and the teacher should know how the system works, on what basis decisions are made and who is responsible for their decisions. Trust in AI is only built when its use respects the core values of justice, respect, and freedom.

In summary, AI is not only a tool, but also a call to think. It is not enough for the system to "work". We have to ask for whom it works, how it works and whether its decisions do not disadvantage anyone. Education is not only about facts, but also about values – and that's why ethics and safety should be the foundation of any school AI system.

Goal for the student:
I can understand why AI in education is not only a technical matter, but also an ethical challenge.
Tasks:
• Reading the introductory text.
• Discussion Forum: Have you ever experienced unfair evaluation by technology?

Output: Write a short reflection (max. 100 words): How would you explain to a classmate why ethics is important in AI?    Each student try shortly brief (max 100 words) reflection - by hand - no AI tool!
